This Privacy Policy explains how Verify a Pro (“Verify a Pro,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information in connection with verifyapro.com and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
Verify a Pro is a service operated by Scion Media. References to “we” include Scion Media as the operator of this Service.
1. The two kinds of data on this site
a. Public licensing records (directory listings)
The professional listings that make up the directory are compiled from public records published by state licensing boards, state agencies, and local government building departments. These records — including license number, business name, license type and status, issue/expiration dates, and business location — are already public information created and maintained by government bodies. We aggregate, standardize, and link them back to the official source. We are not the originator of this data and cannot change the underlying government record.
b. Information you voluntarily provide
- Listing claims: name, business name, email, phone, and any profile details you submit.
- Opt-out / correction requests: name, email, license number, and the details of your request.
- Contact and support: your name, email, and message.
2. Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we and our analytics providers automatically collect limited technical data: IP address (truncated/anonymized where feasible), device and browser type, referring page, pages viewed, and approximate (city-level) location derived from IP. This is used in aggregate to operate and improve the Service and to detect abuse.
3. How we use information
- Operate, maintain, and improve the directory and search.
- Verify listing claims against the official state record before publishing changes.
- Respond to your requests (claims, corrections, opt-outs, support).
- Protect the Service against fraud, abuse, scraping, and security threats.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Cookies & analytics
We use essential cookies to run the site and privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage. We do not use cross-site advertising trackers that build individual profiles of you. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings; the directory remains fully usable without them. Where required, we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as an opt-out of “sale/share.”
5. How we share information
We share information only:
- With service providers that help us run the Service (hosting, form processing, analytics), bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations, and only as needed to perform their function.
- For legal reasons — to comply with law, enforce our Terms, or protect rights, safety, and property.
- In a business transfer — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Data retention
We keep information you submit for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business or legal purposes, then delete or anonymize it. Directory records reflect the current public license data and are refreshed on a regular cadence.
7. Data security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (including encryption in transit) appropriate to the sensitivity of the data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete personal information you submitted to us.
- Opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell or share).
- Non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
These rights are provided under laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), Virginia CDPA, Colorado CPA, Connecticut CTDPA, and similar state laws. To exercise a right, email privacy@verifyapro.com; we will verify your request and respond within the timeframe the law requires. You may appeal a decision by replying to our response.
9. Professionals: managing your listing
If you are a licensed professional, you may claim your listing to control the profile details shown, or request removal/suppression via the opt-out form or optout@verifyapro.com. We suppress contact details on request and remove Verify a Pro listings where appropriate.
10. Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided us information, contact privacy@verifyapro.com and we will delete it.
11. Third-party links
The Service links to official government portals and other third-party sites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices; review their policies separately.
12. International users
The Service is operated in the United States. If you access it from outside the U.S., you understand your information is processed in the U.S. under this Policy.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. Material changes will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date; significant changes may be highlighted on the site. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
